And it's possible that this is your line-editing price, rather than the read-through price? A read-through with report is essential first, I've found, before line editing.

When you're ready for line editing, one way to tell if this is a good match is to hire the editor for a sample chapter. If it's singing when they're done, it might be worth the cost.

I charge $450-600 for that word count read-through, but I think I'm more average costs than high price.

MaryYour Book Starts Herehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07568469874356348872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7071197508859706097.post-33176350948112149602012-03-27T23:54:07.438-04:002012-03-27T23:54:07.438-04:00I am about 3 years into my first novel. Lots of instruction from excellent sources (MCM the foremost among them).
I have revised/rewritten my tale of medical mystery/suspense and know that it is not where it needs to be. I am at 105K words. I fear any greater length.
i have reviewed some author/support personnel offers and they are in the neighborhood of $3-4 per page with a delivery of a letter and "an hour of discussion". I find this discouraging and very limited with regards educational exchange and ? value.
I also know some qualified people have loads of competing time demands.
Am i just out of touch with the going rates? I have no way to know if I am getting value until I receive the input.
Thoughts?tjcnoreply@blogger.com
